Even as the Real Estate and Mortgage Lending industries’ regulatory atmosphere necessarily advances toward an environment that will hopefully curb the abuses brought on by the Subprime Meltdown of 2007, which was a primary catalyst for the Great Recession that followed, it is still prudent to acquire the essential knowledge necessary to keep you, your family and your heirs safe in this financial sphere. Mortgage Fraud and Credit Scams, though thankfully becoming increasingly difficult to commit, continue to be two hotbeds of scam abuse perpetrated on seniors. Today’s presentation will offer insight and information to enhance detection and prevention potential.

Robert Callaway has deep roots in the South Bay. Born at Stanford Hospital, raised in Menlo Park and then Los Gatos, California, he grew up in a bilingual legal and military family. His mother, a native of El Salvador. was a WAC at Fort Ord, Monterey and then a Federally-Certified Court Interpreter, providing Spanish-English interpreting services for the court system in San Jose for over 35 years. His father, from a small town in Montana, was a Colonel in the Army for over 30 years, and his brother Dave, a career prosecutor, is the head of the San Jose Branch of the U.S. Attorney’s office here in San Jose.
Robert, in addition to being a Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist® and Certified Real Estate Paralegal, likes to refer to himself as a “Credit Crusader”, doing presentations on Credit Education and Repair at local colleges and universities, including De Anza, West Valley, San Jose City, and San Jose State.
His mantra: “My goal is to get in front of as many young 20-somethings in my little corner of the globe and make sure they are acutely aware of the need for their own credit stewardship. Credit reporting, and how it can affect virtually every aspect of one’s financial life, has largely been ignored as an instructional necessity. I’ve made it one of my life’s resolutions to interfere with this glaring lapse in the educational process.”
In addition to credit education, Robert has also presented Mortgage Fraud lectures for the San Jose State Justice Studies Department’s White Collar Crimes curriculum. The combination of these two endeavors provides for his expertise in this arena.
